The Big Bad Werewolf Is Us??!!!

The recent episode (S1E15) episode of the ABC TV show "Once upon a Time" was fantastic. This episode was entitled "Red-Handed" and it was about Red Riding Hood. But as usual they added some interesting twists to the classic story. They also made some interesting little connections to other stories and legends about wolves. Whenever any program does some my mind tends to go off into many directions. I thought I would further explore the idea presented.

In this episode red riding Hood wants to run away with her true love. A huntsman named Peter, a nod to the classic Peter and the Wolf. Grandma is very protective, won't let her go far as there is a threat to the village from "wolf". We learn that there is a regular time when the wolf is active and that the color red keeps you safe. In the episode the wolf is very dangerous and we discover is not as it seems. It is in fact a werewolf.

The Little Red Riding Hood most of us are familiar with is the version by the brothers Grimm. They compiled the story from two separate German tales they were told. The story as we know it was first published in there book "Children's and Household Tales" in 1812. It goes as follows;
The girl walks through the woods to deliver food to her sick grandmother. A wolf wants to eat the girl but is afraid to do so in public. He approaches Little Red Riding Hood and she naively tells him where she is going. He suggests the girl pick some flowers, which she does. In the meantime, he goes to the grandmother's house and gains entry by pretending to be the girl. He swallows the grandmother whole, and waits for the girl, disguised as the grandma. When the girl arrives, she notices that her grandmother looks very strange. Little Red Riding Hood then says, "What big hands you have!" In most retelling of this colloquy eventually culminates with Little Red Riding Hood saying, "My, what big teeth you have!" to which the wolf replies, "The better to eat you with" and swallows her whole, too. A lumberjack, however, comes to the rescue and cuts open the wolf with his axe, who had fallen asleep. Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother emerge unharmed. They fill the wolf's body with heavy stones. The wolf awakens and tries to flee, but the stones cause him to collapse and die.

The origins of the Little Red Riding Hood story can be traced to versions from various European countries and more than likely preceding the 17th century. Some significantly different from the Grimm's-inspired version. It was told by French peasants in the 14th century as well as in Italy, where a number of versions exist.

The earliest known printed version was known as Le Petit Chaperon Rouge and had its origins in 17th century French folklore. It was included in the collection "Tales and Stories of the Past with Morals. Tales of Mother Goose", in 1697, by Charles Perrault. This version is both more sinister and more overtly moralized than the later ones. The redness of the hood, which has been given symbolic significance was a detail introduced by Perrault.

The story had as its subject an "attractive, well-bred young lady", a village girl of the country being deceived into giving a wolf she encountered the information he needed to find her grandmother's house successfully and eat the old woman while at the same time avoiding being noticed by woodcutters working in the nearby forest. Then he proceeded to lay a trap for the Red Riding Hood. The latter ends up being asked to climb into the bed before being eaten by the wolf, where the story ends. The wolf emerges the victor of the encounter and there is no happy ending.

Charles Perrault explained the 'moral' at the end so that no doubt is left to his intended meaning. The threat of strangers to children and men to young pretty women. Especially the proverbial wolf in sheep's clothing. This was just one of many different interpretations of a common theme throughout European legends. There is also a astronomical reference.

In early variations of the tale's theme the antagonist is not always a wolf, but sometimes an ogre, dragon or a werewolf. All of these reference to different "evils" but primarily human predation such as sexual, extreme violence, cannibalism, and deception. The tale makes the clearest contrast between the safe world of the village and the dangers of the forest (the outside world).

The Big Bad Wolf is a term used to describe a fictional wolf who appears in several precautionary folkloric stories. Versions of this character have appeared in numerous works, including Peter and the Wolf, the seven kids in the wolf, and the three Little pigs. He has become a generic archetype of a menacing predatory antagonist, sometimes referred to as the Big Bad. So why was it the wolf what was chosen as the representative for the predatory antagonist, and devouring and rebirth.

anthropomorphized the wolf. We relate to the wolf and understand that we all have a beastly side. How humans could do the most predatory, violent, and terrible things. Just as they are like us we can be like them. I believe the tales are warnings to be precautionary with other humans and could be based on real cases of illness.

There is a disease called lycanthropy. It is a mental illness in which a person believes they have been transformed into or are animals and behave accordingly. It is often seen in feral children. Certain drugs are also known to be able to induce the affect, such as with Scandinavian berserkers. The definition of lycanthropy is the ability or power of human being to transform into a wolf, or to gain wolf like characteristics. The word has been linked to the Arcadian King Lycoan. In Ovid's Metamorphoses, he was turned into a ravenous wolf in retribution for attempting to serve human flesh (his own son) to visiting Zeus in an attempt to disprove the god's divinity. Clearly not literal but a precautionary tale about cannibalism, and insanity or a curse resulting from it. The Windigo of native legend is closely related.

Lycanthropy can begin when one believes that he/she is destined to or desires to take the form. Usually this happens in a time of vulnerability, or major change of the mind such as depression. Often, the transformation is triggered by someone saying or doing something that makes the victim believe that he/she must begin transformation, such as someone they truly love being in danger. Sometimes, the victim even reads something that makes them believe that they could or should change form. The disease can begin with physical symptoms like dry skin, fatigue, and the need to be alone. Slowly, cravings will change.

The werewolf appears to be an amalgamation of different beliefs and realities expanded into a creature. Originally by superstitious people of the less educated middle ages. There were many medieval "werewolf trials". Trials of some perpetrators of very brutal and animal like murders involving cannibalism. The public had trouble believing a normal human could do such things. The killers did claim to be werewolves and having made evil pacts. Although there was no evidence ever of actual transformation from human form. There was some hysteria and it is still unexplained why there were so many similar cases around that era. Perhaps the psychosis of lycanthropy is able to occur more than we believe. It is now known that full moons also have the ability to affect human behavior. If one believed they really were they a wolf it is quite plausible that on a full moon night could in fact experience increased psychosis and classic werewolf traits like hunger and strength. Furthermore if they suffered from the disease Hypertrichosis they would for all intensive purposes be a werewolf, minus the claws and fangs.Hypertrichosis is  a syndrome where a person grows an abnormal amount of hair on their bodies. One extreme form the entire body can be covered with hair thick like for. It can be present at birth or come on later in life.

A combination of these diseases would make someone look and act like a wolf. Or is it plausible that there really could be wolfmen? And we see glimpses every once in a while among the general population. I suggest keeping one eye open the next full moon, just in case.

Sages & Scientists

Here is some wisdom from the lectures of today's portion of the 2012 Sages and Scientists Symposium in California. A groundbreaking three-day event sponsored by the Chopra Foundation.

"When at some future date the high court of history sits in judgment on each of us...our success or failure...will be measured by the answers to four questions: First, were we truly men of courage...? Secondly, were we truly men of judgment...? Third, were we truly men of integrity...? Finally, were we truly men of dedication...?"

Heuristics and Awen

Part of this post is inspired by an entry on like sister's blog as well so of course I am taking on druidic studies. You can check out my sister's blog here;
http://awrittenexperiment.blogspot.com/2012/01/light-bulbs.html

Everybody has had a problem before that they have to solve but kept come up with a solution. Well you have undoubtedly also experienced an answer coming suddenly. As if the answer came from some source beyond yourself. In that post there are musings about our subconscious. There are in fact a couple explanations out there for the sudden moments of genius and clarity. The subconscious definitely plays a part but there also be be some divine influence.

Often when we kept come up with an answer or anything satisfactory we become frustrated. Realizing we don't know everything or that we have forgotten. We start to wonder if there are simply things me aren't meant to know. It is good to have perseverance and a positive, I can do it, attitude but sometimes you need to let something go before you go insane.

It can be hard realizing you don’t know everything, and admitting you have so much more to learn from life. People are so adamant about proving their point, getting their voice to be heard, & practice being right that they never step back to get a different perspective. Intellectual humility is admitting you don't have all answers and stepping back. Sometimes stepping away is exactly what you have to do to find the solution. Realizing that the solution is still being developed and will emerge when ready.

A great help at times like that to give you strength to not dwell on getting a solution is the first few lines of The Serenity Prayer. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

The only question is how does a perfect solution or answer come out of a blue? One that is so good you find it a little unbelievable. Considering you aren't even actively thinking about it and have set it aside. I am going to present the two most accepted ideas on how this happens. One scientific and other spiritual.

Scientifically speaking we have heuristics. Heuristic or heuristics; (from Greek: "find" or "discover") refers to experience-based techniques for problem solving, learning, and discovery. Where an exhaustive search is impractical, heuristic methods are used to speed up the process of finding a satisfactory solution. Examples of this method include using a "rule of thumb", an educated guess, an intuitive judgment, or common sense.

Heuristics are simple, efficient rules, hard-coded by evolutionary processes or learned, which have been proposed to explain how people make decisions, come to judgments, and solve problems, typically when facing complex problems or incomplete information. There is innate information and knowledge we all have just from living. There are patterns your mind recognizes subconsciously and answers to problems that are already there. Answers we are unaware of having.

Knowing some heuristic techniques will also help bring out what is within. The most fundamental heuristic is trial and error, which can be used in everything from matching nuts and bolts to finding the values of variables in algebra problems. Here are a few other commonly used heuristics, from George PĆ³lya's 1945 book, How to Solve It:
-If you are having difficulty understanding a problem, try drawing a picture.
-If you can't find a solution, try assuming that you have a solution and seeing what you can derive from that -("working backward").
-If the problem is abstract, try examining a concrete example.
-Try solving a more general problem first (the "inventor's paradox": the more ambitious plan may have more chances of success).

The spiritual answer is that of divine inspiration or a connection with some part of the divine. The idea of receiving help from a higher source. Many different cultures believed that prayer, ritual and ceremony were necessary to connect to something higher. While it very well may bring bigger results it is good to recognize that music for a child you the divine energy. We all have a permanent connection with the divine which influences us and we can draw upon. Several concepts describe a element which contains wisdom that connects all and can influence us.

The concept of the Sophia in a way realized an innate wisdom just like heuristics. Greek for wisdom, Sophia is a central idea in classical Greek philosophy and religion. Adopted by Western religions, especially Christianity. The Greek teachers of philosophy such as Plato and Socrates understood philosophy as the love of wisdom (philo-sophia). Socrates felt that skepticism towards your own wisdom and knowledge left one free to receive the true wisdom of a spontaneous insight or inspiration. The New Testament of the Bible is further separates the wisdom of man and that of God or the divine. It speaks of God's wisdom as being a mystery and pure. Far greater than our own ability for knowledge.

The energy which would contain this higher wisdom and make it attainable is often referred to as the Akasha. This is a Sanskrit word which means "aether" which is likely more familiar to you. Philosophy considers it to be the fifth element. It is described as the One, Eternal, and All pervading physical substance which is imperceptible. It is said to have the quality of sound.
Interestingly in the Hebrew alphabet each letter is believed to be a crystallization of one of the aspects of manifestation of the divine word. In other words they are based upon what God said in order to create. They feel that sound creates substance.
So we see the connection between the Akasha and the creative forces of the divine. This sound contains wisdom and he precise principles of creation and perfection.

Nwywre. For the Druids it was the link that connect in the human world with the divide world. They knew of the fifth element and we're aware of its ability to manifest. Nwywre represents the creative power of Akasha in the physical world. It seems to be the connection between Hindu and ancient Hebrew concepts. The inspiration behind the Hebrew alphabet and other divinely inspired things.

When we are able to connect to this element containing wisdom (or perhaps it manifests in us) it is called the Awen. ‘Awen’ is a Welsh word roughly translated as ‘divine inspiration.’ The word is Indo-European in origin and comes from the root ‘-uel,’ which means ‘to blow.’ In this sense, it could be seen to mean, ‘that which takes one’s breath away.’ In other words, the Awen is that which is awe-inspiring. If you've ever had an 'ah ha!' moment, when the solution to a problem seemed to come to you in a flash, you've experienced Awen. If you've ever been particularly moved by a piece of music, or a well-acted scene from a drama, you've experienced Awen.

So as you can see philosophical knowledge indicates that there is an element which contains wisdom and is able to affect us and manifest. Science provides us with a theory of this innate knowledge and how to access it. Perhaps just another technique to strengthen the connection with the divine. It seems we are truly never alone with our problems.

YouTime tm

YouTube is one of the better websites out there. It is nice for finding any kind of video you could want. Really great for music videos. The commercials are bearable because it is a great service. YouTube is a great place to waste time and spend your free time. Although a side effect is losing track of time completely. Going from one after another after another video. It is probably one of the more addicting websites out there next to Facebook.

I spent the last month organizing videos into playlists. Several of which are just music. The following link is to a playlist of a lot of my favorite songs. I thought I would share it.

Day of Coherence

There is a new understanding of the magnetic fields of the earth and of the human heart. The human heart produces the strongest bio magnetic field in the body, 5000 times stronger than the one produced by the brain. Scientists got a new insight to the real power of the heart's field because of 9/11. There was a strange phenomenon which occurred.

The Geostationary Satellite System is a system of several satellites permanently located over North America and ground-based elements. Operated by the United States NESDIS, the system provides a continuous stream of environmental data. Every 30 minutes the satellites send back to Earth the data they have gathered. Including a signal that tells them how strong the magnetic field of the earth is. On September 11, 2001 there were two GEOS satellites over North America and they showed that the magnetic field spiked in ways that scientists hadn't ever seen before. It made the scientists ask what was going on. To create such a spike to the magnetic field of the earth which sustains all life.

The scientists noted that the spike appeared at 9 AM Eastern Standard Time. What was roughly 15 minutes after the first plane hit the first tower of the World Trade Center.  It took about 15 minutes for the images of what was happening in New York to be carried by the media to all of the world. During that 15 minutes the people of the world, billions of people, had a genuine heart based response. They weren't thinking so much as merely feeling. Some of it was anger, some of it shock, disbelief, etc. but it was purely heart based emotion. The scientists believe it was this combined effect of so many human hearts experiencing such strong emotion at the same time that spiked the field. They didn't tie it all together at first but it wasn't long after 9/11 that they came to this idea.

The key was that in that it took something horrible to bring the people of the earth together. In that moment of outpouring. The question is can we achieve the same effect without having a disaster. The search for the answer has led to a series of studies through the Institute Of Heart Math in northern California. A project that is called the Global Coherence Initiative where they have developed a network of ground-based sensors. Sensors located in many different places throughout the world which are independently measuring the fields and the relationship of human response to these fields. The project is telling us a lot about our relationship to the field. Their research is beginning to change the way mainstream science thinks of our relationship with the world and brings new meaning to the Gaia theory.

The Institute has always studied and taught about the condition of coherence. Specifically heart-brain coherence. The term "coherence" in a broad context describes more ordered mental and emotional processes as well as more ordered and harmonious interactions among various physiological systems. It is the harmonious flow of information, cooperation, and order among the subsystems of a larger system. It allows for the emergence of more complex systemwide functions. This context refers to higher-order cooperation among the physical subsystems (such as the heart, brain, glands, and organs) as well as between the cognitive, emotional, and physical systems, an important aspect of coherence. It is the rhythm of the heart that sets the beat for the entire system. The heart's rhythmic beat influences brain processes that control the autonomic nervous system, cognitive function, and emotions. By changing the rhythm of the heart, system-wide dynamics can be quickly and dramatically changed. The state of coherence supports  healing, cooperation and peace.

When we have positive emotions and are calm, our heart rate variability fluctuates smoothly around our average heart rate. For all positive people independent of age, our heart rate variability repeats itself once every 10 sec – or 1 cycle per 10 sec which is 0.1 Hz. When we are negative or even if we are positive but have a long-time pattern of negativity, the heart rate variability has a more chaotic pattern. Their sensors have measured a 0.1 Hz magnetic field fluctuation of the Earth’s magnetic field, like it's heartbeat. When our body is in a state of coherence we are also in coherence with the earth, or in tune with the Earth's rhythm. Therefore if we are in fact part of a even larger system which includes the earth we can also alter the Earth with our bodies.

In 1952 physicist Winfried Otto Schumann mathematically predicted the global electromagnetic resonance phenomenon. Schumann resonances occur because the space between the surface of the Earth and the conductive ionosphere acts as a closed waveguide. The limited dimensions of the Earth cause this waveguide to act as a resonant cavity for electromagnetic waves in the ELF band. The cavity is naturally excited by electric currents in lightning. Schumann resonances are the principal background in the electromagnetic spectrum beginning at 3  Hz and extend to 60 Hz, and appear as distinct peaks at extremely low frequencies (ELF). This lowest-frequency (and highest-intensity) mode of the Schumann resonance occurs at a frequency of approximately 7.83 Hz, but this frequency can vary slightly from a variety of factors. The higher resonance modes are spaced at approximately 6.5 Hz intervals, a characteristic attributed to the atmosphere's spherical geometry.

It was discovered that there is a similarity between the earth resonance and the rhythms of the human brain
waves. The human brain waves also have a similar range.
Delta waves 0.1-4 Hz unconscious, deep sleep
Theta 4-8 dreamy, creative
Alpha 8-14 meditation, relaxation
Beta 14-50, consciously aware, agitated, afraid

Solar activity has the ability to intensify the Earth's resonance frequencies (magnetic and ionosphere) which in turn amplifies human emotion. If you are positive you become more positive, if negative you become more negative. Historical events like war, social unrest, and acts of terrorism can be tied to solar activity influence. As a large system we would be able to therefore affect it by increasing our frequencies.

The science suggests that that when the heart was agitated on 9/11. There was a reduction of the higher mental and system functions producing negative chaotic patterns. The brain went into higher frequency beta waves which raised the electromagnetic resonance of the earth via coherence. The spike happening because of so many people going through the same exact sequence.

In the past, awareness of an interconnectedness between people and people and the earth and its solar system was strong among many shamanic, indigenous and religious traditions. Most of these traditions believe there is a universal consciousness that pervades and connects everything – the planet, rocks, plants, animals and human beings – in subtle and unseen ways. Many in modern science now are beginning to accept that we indeed are all part of a vast web of connections that encompass not only life on this planet but the solar system and beyond. Today, the notion of interconnectedness is being discussed and studied by scientists and many others who have the task of proving that the interconnectedness of life is not merely a spiritual belief, but scientific fact.

Many studies suggest that this interconnectedness exists, but the more challenging task is developing an understanding of what forces mediate such interconnections. When they prove there is interconnectedness and that the human mind is always affecting the world and understand how it works science is going to be thrown on its head.

This idea of global coherence stemming from personal coherence is a very powerful thing. It is especially significant when we look at the context. Here we at the time of the greatest crises of human history in this narrow window of time. Now science that is telling us of the crises is telling us that we have the ability to tip the scales in our favor. It is critical for the global community to take increased responsibility and care for each other and the earth, which is sustaining life and providing its many resources. This planet that we may be more intimately connected than we realize.

Already Underway

The war with Iran is already underway. Although not being fought with overt military action, hostile actions are already happening. Direct military conflict is only a matter of time. Although that probably wouldn't happen until after a few things fall in place. They will likely continually weaken Iran while continuing to develop complete spectral dominance. Syria will likely be destabilized until taken out of the equation, possibly attacked. Also it likely wouldn't happen until after the majority of alliance soldiers in Afghanistan are out of harms way. Without major developments it likely won't happen within the year.

The US Air Force, Air and Space Command are nearing the point where they will be able to target and destroy Iran's electrical and computer networks via cyber warfare. While at the same time making the US immune to it. The US is also continuing to step up development of a global missile defense network. Building up defenses in Eastern Europe, Turkey, and Israel who are being integrated into US control. To protect them (and Europe) from Iranian retaliation when Iran is hit. All necessary for complete dominance.

Covert and black ops against Iran are currently being carried out and stepped up by the US, Israel, and UK. Via spies, drones, assassinations, and sabotage. The Iranians have captured quite a few allied spies recently, as well as a US drone. There have also been mysterious deaths of Iranian scientists and some mysterious explosions at Iranian facilities. Explosions occurring in great numbers after many years of never having any problems. They blamed the UK and Israeli Mossad.

In November the US declared that Iran and Hezbollah of Lebanon helped Al Qaeda with the attacks of 9/11. Although all evidence points to other parties. They also found Iran we will for $100 billion in damages. Necessary to pass off Iran at the next necessary in the war on terror. Interestingly a lawsuit against Saudi Arabia for involvement with 9/11 was dropped only short before. Coinciding with the supposed Iranian plot to kill a Saudi ambassador. Which was used by Washington and Saudi Arabia to further build the coalition against Iran. It was used to ratchet up sanctions too.

Aaccusations against Tehran by Washington, Israel and allies, including international organizations, like the United Nation have increased once again. The International Atomic Energy Association (I.A.E.A.) for example released a report manipulated with information from the intelligence services of the U.S. and its allies. Old information that was discarded earlier for being false by the I.A.E.A. and reinvented the very same information as “potentially” or "possible". Language intended to mislead public opinion. Recently appointed Director-General Yukiya Amano, even violated the regulations of the I.A.E.A. in composing the report and its clandestine release to a few I.A.E.A. members. Amano’s report also knowingly released a list of Iranian scientists working on the nuclear energy program, knowing that it would place their lives in danger with assassinations attempts.

The current coalition who are all willing to be involved in open military conflict with Iran if it arises is growing. At the moment it includes the US, Israel, UK, NATO (France, Germany, Canada, Italy, Turkey,, Norway, Denmark, etc.), and the GCC + 2 (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the U.A.E., Oman, and Qatar + Egypt and Jordan). Australia and New Zealand would probably also provide assistance.
Russia has recently said they would be on standby (in case involved in the conflict) but would provide technical and logistical support against Iran. The Chinese would stand down like always, instead of conflict. India would also be on standby just in case but not involved.

It appears that if Iran doesn't respond to aggression the excuses used against Afghanistan and Iraq will be combined to justify attacking Iran.
